Since November 4th, parents of babies under six months old and more vulnerable children can protect their little ones against the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infections, a seasonal virus that causes respiratory tract and lung infections. With Nirsevimab, a new free medication, a single intramuscular injection will help to reduce the risk of severe complications.
Quebec is the first province to offer this innovative medication, available since November 4th.
Eligibility criteria:
- Infants under six months as of October 1, 2024, or born after that date
- Children with health conditions that put them at increased risk for complications
For newborns, the dose can be administered before they leave the hospital or birth centre.
