Residential services program: Housing in intermediate resources (IR) and family-type resources (FTR)
What is an intermediate resource (IR) and a family-type resource (FTR)?
Intermediate resources and family-type resources (IR-FTR) are alternative living environments to a person’s home or an institution. By providing an individualized response to the diverse and changing needs of children, adults and seniors, IR-FTRs help them to integrate, reintegrate and participate in community life.
IR-FTRs work in partnership with the public institutions, which provide professional follow-up of the users under their care. Their services complement the mission of the healthcare institutions, which is to provide quality health and social services to users in need. These resources can accommodate a maximum of nine adults or seniors.
Permanent public housing services are also offered in partnership with the intermediate resources. These resources, operated by private companies, accommodate people with a loss of autonomy who can no longer live at home but who do not yet meet the criteria of a long-term care centre (CHSLD), which is reserved for clients who require advanced care.
The living arrangement can be permanent, temporary, or on an emergency basis.
