Our Emergency departments are open 24/7. Our teams are standing by to take you in and provide you with the care you need. They will determine if your situation requires immediate intervention. If not, you could be asked to wait or be referred to another resource.

Before going to the Emergency department, we recommend that you:

• call Info-Santé at 811; this service is available 24/7;
• consult a doctor at a walk-in clinic.

Triage
When you arrive at the Emergency department, a nurse will assess you to determine the urgency of the situation and the level of care you require. Your condition will then be rated on a priority scale. The nurse may reassess you periodically or at your request if your condition changes.

Cases are prioritized based on the Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale, which is why it is impossible for Emergency department staff and doctors to predict your wait time.

Level 1 - Resuscitation
The patient’s condition is imminently life-threatening.

Level 2 - Emergent
The patient’s condition is potentially life-threatening.

Level 3 - Urgent
The patient’s condition is related to an acute, serious disease that could be life‑threatening.

The patient’s condition is related to an acute, non-serious disease that is not life‑threatening.

Level 5 - Non-urgent
The patient’s condition is related to a minor or chronic disease that presents no risk of deterioration.

Institution-based palliative care

Palliative care is provided to people with an end-stage chronic disease or cancer at various resources and facilities on the territory of the CISSS de la Montérégie-Centre. Its purpose is to manage pain and symptoms in a way that respects the wishes of the patient and their family.

Regardless of where they choose to spend their final days, patients and their loved ones can rely on the compassion and support of a team of experts.

After you have been given a prognosis by a doctor, a social worker, nurse, or other professional will guide you through the process.

Trois gériatres et une infirmière clinicienne offrent des services à la clinique ambulatoire de gériatrie de l'hôpital Charles-Lemoyne. Les patients sont reçus sur référence. Des plages sont réservées pour le centre de répartition des demandes de services (CRDS) pour les premières consultations des médecins de famille. Les patients peuvent également y être suivis.

L'infirmière clinicienne fait le premier contact avec le patient.

The pediatric clinic is reserved for registered clients or on the referral of a doctor.

Most medical imaging exams require an appointment, such as:

• Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI);
• Computed tomography (CT scan);
• Ultrasound;
• Mammography;
• Angiography (vascular);
• Nuclear medicine.

General radiology without an appointment

You do not need an appointment for a simple x-ray (knee, chest, etc.). Simply show up between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. All other medical imaging exams require an appointment.

Medical imaging with an appointment

Did your family doctor give you a referral for a medical imaging exam?

To make an appointment, make sure:

• you have the original requisition and not a photocopy;
• that the following information appears on the requisition:
  • Your full name and file number, where applicable;
  • Daytime and evening telephone number;
  • Valid health insurance number (RAMQ) and expiration date;
  • Name of the referring doctor (written legibly), their address (to send the results), and their signature.

You must then mail your requisition or bring it in person.

IMPORTANT: Appointment are not given on-site. Once your requisition has been received, by mail or in person, the hospital will call you as soon as possible with an appointment.

For best results, make sure the requisition includes the referring doctor’s contact information and license number.

Information about the surgery 

To meet the varying needs of our users, the operating block is made up of 10 operating rooms, one minor surgery room, and one C-section room. There are more than 50 surgeons in the following specialities:

• General surgery (including breast surgery)
• Surgical oncology 
  • Surgical oncology includes all surgeries on cancer patient (biopsies, specimen collections, and analysis of cells or tissues to aid in the diagnosis). In some cases, surgery is combined with other treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy. The type of surgery performed depends on the type, location and extent of the cancer, and on the patient’s health condition.
• Vascular surgery
  • HCLM offers a full range of vascular surgery services, with the exception of thoracic aortic surgery, due to technological limitations. The hospital is also the only one in the Montérégie region to perform vascular surgery.
• Thoracic surgery
• Gynecological surgery
• Maxillofacial surgery

• Advanced laparoscopic surgery (in general surgery, gynecology, urology, and thoracic surgery)

  • The HCLM has advanced expertise in pituitary surgery.

  • The HCLM is the only hospital in the Montérégie region to perform retinal surgery.

• Orthopedic surgery (including lumbar surgery)
  • The HCLM has one of the largest medical staffs in the Montérégie region, with nine active orthopedic surgeons.

As a level 2 trauma centre and partner of the Montérégie neurotrauma consortium, Hôpital Charles-Le Moyne is the regional designated trauma centre for head injuries.

Hôpital Charles-Le Moyne provides voluntary interruption of pregnancy (VIP) services between the 7th and 12th week of pregnancy. The service is confidential and available by appointment. No medical prescription is required.

VIP services require two visits. The procedure is performed during the second visit. Note that you cannot be accompanied into the procedure room. The service is covered by your health insurance card. If you do not have a health insurance card, or if it is no longer valid, you will be required to pay.
