The Agir tôt program is intended for children aged 0-5 years and their family. This program identifies challenges related to a child’s development to guide families toward the appropriate services and support the transition to kindergarten.
The three components of Agir tôt
- Step 1: Developmental monitoring
The earlier developmental concerns are identified, the better. At your child’s 18-month vaccination appointment with the nurse, you will complete a questionnaire using the ABCdaire 18 months+ monitoring tool of your child’s development. If any developmental concerns are identified, with your consent, you will be referred to Agir tôt or another appropriate service.
As a parent, you play a vital role in monitoring your child’s development. Share your observations and concerns with the professionals in your child’s life, including doctors, nurses, daycare educators, community workers, etc.
- Step 2: Screening
Once you’ve been referred to your local CLSC, you will receive a phone call to discuss your concerns and your child’s needs. If necessary, screening will be done to better understand the challenges and determine if services are required. You will also receive advice and referrals to community resources to support your child’s development at home.
- Step 3: Intervention
The Agir tôt program gives access to a variety of services as early as possible in your child’s life to meet your child’s needs, as well as those of your family.
Interventions aim to:
- Help you, as a parent, better assist your child through the stages of development and in your daily life;
- Offer stimulation and intervention to help your child develop and function well at home, at daycare and at school;
